    General

The most important Bible texts that inform about the end time Antichrist are the following:
    • Dan 7
    • 2 Thess 2
    • Rev 13
There is a difference between the end time Antichrist ("against Christ" or
"instead of Christ") and the many antichrists (evil leaders, false prophets,
and false teachers) who have already appeared and in whom the spirit of
    Antichrist is and has been active (1 John 2:18–19, 22, 4:3, 2 John 1:7)

Emperor Nero can be seen as a foreshadow of the coming Antichrist.
Another foreshadow of the coming Antichrist is Antiochus IV,
    see time 1:46
7:06 in Lecture: Intertestamental Period pt. 2.

Antichrist will rise out of the "sea" (Rev 13:1a) at the end time. The "sea" is here a symbol that stands for peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages (Rev 17:15).
He will become the leader of a world power and will be the ruler of the entire world
(Rev 13:1, 7b), see What is Babylon in the Book of Revelation?  He is called the
little horn (Dan 7:7b–8, 23b–24, 8:9), see Visions and Dreams by Prophet Daniel.
He will emerge as a nationalist, but in his heart he is a globalist, and will gain global power. Horns are emblems of power, dominion, honor, and violence. It will be ten
important leaders in this world. He will defeat three of them and gain total control
    of the world, s
ee time 21:26–24:34 in Antichrist Trump: Assyrian & Roman Heritage.
He gains world power by conquering other nations (Rev 6:2, Mat 24:7).

Antichrist won't be a Jew. He will be a descendant of the Assyrian people: "and he (Jesus) shall deliver us from the Assyrian (Antichrist) when he comes into our land and treads within our border.(Mica 5:6b). But he will also be a descendant of Ancient Rome: "And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.(Dan 9:26b). The Roman empire destroyed Jerusalem and the temple 70 AD. That is, he will have the DNA of both people, see time 15:3423:02 in Antichrist Trump: Assyrian & Roman Heritage (Micah 5:6 & Dan 9:26).

It may be that he allows the Jews to build a temple with animal sacrifices. Many
Jews will therefore believe that he is the Jewish Messiah
    (John 5:43), one of the
false Messiahs Jesus warns about (Mat 24:23–27, Mark 13:21–23, Luk 17:23–24).
Many members of Shia Islam may believe that he is the last last Imam.

Antichrist will deceive the Jews by promising them peace and prosperity at the beginning of the 7-year Tribulation period (Dan 9:27a), see The Book of Thessalonians. This gives them a false sense of peace and security (1 Thess 5:2–3).

"The beast that was wounded by the sword (Julius Caesarand yet lived".
    (Rev 13:14b). "
One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast (Antichrist).(Rev 13:3). Antichrist can be seen as a revived Julius Caesar,
    who ruled the
Roman empire for 3.5 years before being killed by the sword. Antichrist isn't a reincarnated Julius Caesar, he doesn't have his soul, but acts
in his spirit and power in like manner as John the Baptist did
in the spirit and power of Elijah, see The Book of Malachi.

"The beast that you saw was, and is not (Nero was dead when John saw this),
and is about to rise from the bottomless pit
     (
    Abyss) and go to destruction.
(Rev 17:8a). It may be that a demonic spirit of Nero, the previous foreshadow of Antichrist, will rise from the Abyss and possess Antichrist. This happens when Antichrist sits in the temple and proclaims himself as God in the middle of the
7-year Tribulation period (2 Thess 2:4). Antichrist will then begin to act in a similar way that Nero did, and will carry out his evil ministry for 3.5 years until
    Jesus returns
See the end part of Ezekiel's TempleAntichrist will then work with
Nero's hatred, pride, and arrogance, claiming to be God. He will suit Nero's character.

The number of the beast (Antichrist) is 666 (Rev 13:17–18). In some of the earliest manuscripts of The Book of Revelation it's 616. Each letter of the Aramaic alphabet
and the Hebrew alphabet has a number that allows the numerical value to be calculated by adding the numbers.
"Emperor Nero" gives both the value 666 (KAISAR NERON) and 616 (CAESAR NERO). It seems that John is referring to
    Nero in
Rev 13:17–18. Christians were never persecuted in such large and brutal numbers by anyone more than they were with Nero. He was the worst of the worst. He not only killed Christians, he also tortured them with pleasure. He did so for 3.5 years, from 64 AD to 68 AD. Nero was 30 years old when he died in 68 AD. He was dead when John wrote about this around 95 AD. Nero probably ended up without a physical body in the Abyss, which is the lowest part of Hell. The Abyss is the place where even demons don't want to go (Luk 8:31) (also called Tartarus
    (2 Pet 2:4 (YLT), Jude 1:6), see
Examples of exorcism in Miracles of Jesus and time 26:50–30:17 in Jude • A warning for the Body of Christ.

It may happen that Antichrist will act in the spirit of Julius Caesar in the first half
of the 7-year Tribulation period and being possessed by Nero's spirit during the second half of the period.

He rules the entire world for 42 months (3.5 years) (Rev 13:5, 7b, Dan 7:25) during the second half of the 7-year Tribulation period, also called the Great Tribulation.

Antichrist will blaspheme God (Dan 7:25a, 11:36b, Rev 13:1b, 56).

He will set himself above God and will desire women (Dan 11:3639),

He will persecute God's people and defeat them (Dan 7:21, 25, Rev 11:7b, 13:7),
see Explanation to Satan's Attack on the Woman in the Book of Revelation.

Antichrist receives worship based on fear of his power to harm people, not on love.
It's a forced worship. The love of many will grow cold. The world is amazed by him, he may have a unique character. (Rev 13:3–4, 7–8, Mat 24:12).
He doesn't have to be beloved or young because the Bible says nothing about that.

He doesn't fear the Lord, see To Fear the Lord in Fear of Man.

The Dragon (Satan) gives him his power, his throne, and great authority
(Dan 8:24–25, 2 Thess 2:9–12, Rev 13:2, 4). He will do false signs and wonders
(2 Thess 2:9). He will use deception for those who are perishing (2 Thess 2:10).

    Antichrist is called the man of sin and the son of perdition (2 Thess 2:3 (NKJV));
the man of lawlessness and the son of destruction (2 Thess 2:3, 8a (ESV)).
It includes lust, greed, revenge and inability to forgive, see Forgive and You will Be Forgiven. He doesn't seek God's forgiveness. His framing of any person, group or organization that criticizes him as evil has the net effect of making his followers believe they are on the side of good.

Antichrist will be assisted by a religious leader who is the False Prophet, his right hand who backs him up with signs and wonders. It's the False Prophet who promotes the worship of Antichrist as the God of all gods. That the False Prophet has two horns means that he has two areas of power and influence. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It means that he will come across as a nice and peaceful man. That he speaks like a dragon means that he speaks with authority. (Rev 13:11–13, Mat 7:15).

The False Prophet comes by performing real signs and wonders, deceiving those who receive the mark of the beast and those who worship its image (Rev 13:13–14a, 19:20a). He will order an image of Antichrist to be built, to be able to speak and even kill those who don't worship the image of Antichrist (Rev 13:14b–15). He causes everyone (most) to be marked on the right hand or forehead so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, which is Antichrist's name or the number of his name. It's the number of a man, and his number is 666. (Rev 13:16–18). See also time 4:37–6:05 in I Told You Something Was Coming and Now It’s Here.

The mark of the beast shows ownership and is a counterfeit of the seal that we as believers receive when we receive Jesus as our Savior (2 Cor 1:21–22).
Whoever worships Antichrist and his image and receives the mark of his name will be lost forever  (Rev 14:9–11). Many will refuse (Rev 14:12).
See time 8:42–11:50 in Bible Q&A With Pastor Paul │ September 2023.

There are also unclean spirits that perform miracles (Rev 16:13–14). One way to know whether supernatural abilities come from God or from Satan is to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us born again Christian believers and follow his leading (John 3:3, 10:27, Rom 8:9), see To hear the voice of God in
Psalm 131: I have quieted my soul. But i
t's easy to be deceived by false signs and wonders even as a Christian (2 Cor 11:13–15, Mat 24:24, 1 Tim 4:1–2,
2 Tim 4:3–4), see itching ears. See also time 41:36–42:43 in 1 John 2 (Part 2). The spiritual gift of distinguish between spirits can then be of great help.

If you are aware of being deceived, you must humble yourself, admit your shortcomings and repent. There are true signs and wonders from Christians as well (2 Cor 12:12). A basic rule to determine if it's from God or not is if it's so opposite to me. If God tells me what I don't want to hear, does something in a way I probably wouldn't do, or is the opposite of what the world thinks or does; it's probably from God (Proverbs 3:5–7), see time 2:17–6:34 in 2 Timothy 1 (Part 2) :13–18 • Holding fast, guarding. We must be faithful to the Christian message, God's word found in the Bible, and endure suffering, see The Parable of the Persistent Widow.

Antichrist will be defeated by Jesus and thrown with the False Prophet into the
Lake of Fire (Dan 7:11, 22, 26–27, 2 Thess 2:8, Rev 19:19–20), see Lake of Fire in What Does the Bible Say about Hell?

    How to Become World Ruler

Before Jesus returns, the gospel will be preached among all nations (Mat 24:14). There will be terrible times at the end time (2 Tim 3:1–4 (NIV)). There will be a great apostasy (falling away) at this time (Mat 24:12–13, Luke 18:8, 2 Thess 2:3). This apostasy opens the way for Antichrist, whom people will follow. There will be a strong delusion among all (most) people (2 Thess 2:10–12), which also affects many Christians, see time 1:23–3:55 in Does God Purposely Send a Strong Delusion?
Antichrist is defeated when Jesus returns (2 Thess 2:1–12).

Gog from Magog will attack Israel. The attack comes when Israel is at peace. (Ezekiel 38:8, 11). This happens before Israel's covenant with surrounding nations
is confirmed at the beginning of Daniel's 70th week, also known as the 7-year Tribulation period (Dan 9:27a). Probably the Tribulation period begins when this covenant is confirmed. This war may begin near the beginning of the Tribulation period. Gog isn't the same person as Antichrist, see Gog from Magog.

Two witnesses will operate in great power for 3.5 years (Rev 11:3, 6), probably during the first half of the Tribulation period, see The Two Witnesses. This will make the world hate the believers even more, and most people will begin to follow Antichrist (their false Messiah). After the 3.5 years, Antichrist will become demonic (Rev 13:5). He will sit in the temple, proclaim himself as God, and abolish the daily sacrifice (2 Thess 2:4), see the explanation in Ezekiel's Temple. Antichrist will begin to persecute and kill believers on a large scale (Rev 11:7), the Great Tribulation begins. Jesus said: "Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God." (John 16:2b). These people will think they are doing something good for God. At the sound of the seventh trumpet (see The Seventh Seal and the Seven Trumpets in the Book of Revelation) the rapture occurs, see The RaptureThe Great Tribulation lasts 3.5 years and then Jesus returns.

Antichrist is seen as a peacekeeper who has brought peace between the countries. But Israel is seen as a final disturbance of Antichrist. It's probably during the
Great Tribulation that the seven bowls of wrath are poured out (Rev 16). Those who choose to follow Antichrist, have received his mark and worship his image, will suffer from these seven bowls of wrath
. All true Christians have left the Earth at
    The Rapture before this occurs
(Psalm 91:5–10, Rev 16:2), although it's still possible to become a Christian afterwards. The last thing that Antichrist does is to attack Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:1–2), an attack that Jesus stops when he returns

Jesus will then reign for a thousand years over the millennial kingdom
    (Rev 20:1
10), and then judge at the Great White Throne (Rev 20:1114),
    see
The Millennial Kingdom and the Great White Throne Judgement.

    Interpretation

One reason why Antichrist will gain power over the whole world is because of wickedness, sin, deception, and fear of man
. Another reason is that God will
allow him to have this power to fulfill prophesies in the Bible
    (Rev 13:34, 78),
    see also
    The Predestination Theory

Wicked and ungodly globalism is one pit to fall into. The other more dangerous pit to fall into is wicked and ungodly nationalism (Mat 24:7a) which we have seen examples of throughout history. This will be the pit that Antichrist will use to gain power. My view is that extreme globalism and extreme nationalism will merge
together under the rule of Antichrist. We must have a balance between globalism and nationalism, based on good Christian values
, see The Golden Rule in
    The Sermon on the Mount
. God looks at our hearts, our motives behind our choices.

Antichrist probably starts as a businessman and becomes a political leader and a commander-in-chief of a powerful military machine.

He is a pathological liar, unpredictable, has a knack for talking to crowds, with the ability to deceive them. He is obsessed with people being loyal to him alone, promoting his own name, making money for his own good. Antichrist may claim to be a Messianic figure, chosen by God (Mat 24:24). He is anointed by Satan.

Antichrist probably wants to unite all the major religions to increase his own power, something that is being done by the False Prophet. This will change after a time, in the middle of the 7-year Tribulation period, and the focus will shift to the worship of Antichrist alone. The False Prophet will kill those who don't worship the image of Antichrist (Rev 13:14–15, 20:4b). Satan, Antichrist, and the False Prophet form together a false trinity. An attempt to falsify the true Trinity. It's the work of the enemy to bring about counterfeits, which are false imitations of the truth. This is one reason why there are so many world religions. The goal is to deceive people, to lead them away from trusting Jesus as their Saviour, see The Narrow Gate.

Antichrist appears in the beginning as a strong supporter of Christianity and Israel
to deceive as many Christians and Jews as he can. This won't stop Antichrist from
proudly proclaiming himself to be on the same level as God in the middle
of the Tribulation period (2 Thess 2:4). At heart, he is a secular person.

The fact that Antichrist begins as a little horn, means that he slowly begins to accustom the people to him. He will slowly build his popularity. He will promise to solve the problems in the Middle East. He will confirm a peace treaty (Abraham Accords) between Israel and its neighbors to guarantee Israel's security. This will probably begin the
7-year Tribulation period. After 3.5 years of this period, Antichrist will reveal his true nature, and the Great Tribulation begins. He begins to persecute those who believe in Christ on a large scale, legalizes lawlessness, breaks his covenant with Israel, and attacks Israel at the end of the Great Tribulation.
Israel will go through the Great Tribulation, see "the time of Jacob's trouble"
(Jer 30:6–8 (NKJV)) explained at time 38:10–38:50 in September 2024 Bible Q&A.

    Bible Verses about Antichrist

These Bible verses about the character of Antichrist are taken from the NIV:
    •  "If someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him."
      (John 5:43b).
    • "The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion." (Rev 13:2a).
    • "He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superiorWhen they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power." (Dan 8:25).
    • "The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies." (Rev 13:5a).
    • "It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in Heaven." (Rev 13:6).
    • "Truth was thrown to the ground (pathological liar)." (Dan 8:12b).
    • "Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ
(doesn't seek God's forgiveness). Such a person is the antichrist,
      denying the
Father and the Son." (1 John 2:22).
    • "He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time (3.5 years)." (Dan 7:25).
    • "He will be succeeded by a contemptible (vile and evil) person who has not been given the honor of royalty. He will invade the kingdom when its people feel secure, and he will seize it through intrigue.
      (Dan 11:21).
    • "who plots evil with deceit in his heart— he always stirs up conflict." (Proverbs 6:12–15 (see especially verse 14)). It describes an evil man.
    • "There is no fear of God before their eyes. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good. Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong." (Psalm 36:1b–4 (some translations 36:2b–5)).
    • "Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds! At morning’s light they carry it out because it is in their power to do it." (Micah 2:1).
    • "I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest." (Rev 6:2).
    • "While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a human being and a mouth that spoke boastfully." (Dan 7:8).
    • "I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and about the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell—the horn that looked more imposing than the others and that had eyes and a mouth that spoke boastfully." (Dan 7:20).
    • ""and he (Jesus) shall deliver us from the Assyrian (Antichrist) when he comes into our land and treads within our border."
      (Mica 5:6b (ESV)).
He is a descendant of the Assyrian people.
    •  "The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary (at 70 AD)." (Dan 9:26b). He is a descendant of Ancient Rome.
Antichrist will have DNA from both
the Assyrian people and Ancient Rome.
    • "He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven'. In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering." (Dan 9:27).
    • "After coming to an agreement with him, he will act deceitfully, and with only a few people he will rise to power." (Dan 11:23).
    • "In the latter part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a fierce-looking king, a master of intrigue, will arise."
      (Dan 8:23).
    • "And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness." (2 Cor 11:14–15).
    • "Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his ancestors he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts." (Dan 11:38). This he has common with King Solomon who received 666 talents of gold every year (1 Kings 19:14, 2 Chron 9:13, Rev 13:18b). This despite the fact that God had warned the kings of Israel not to acquire excessive amounts of silver and gold (Deu (5 Mos) 17:17b).
    • "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." (1 Tim 6:10). See The Love of Money.
    • "Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion (falling away from Jesus towards Antichrist) occurs and
the man of lawlessness (sin) is revealed, the man doomed to destruction." (2 Thess 2:3).
    • "He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God (be the Saviour of mankind)." (2 Thess 2:4).
    • "And then the lawless one (he considers himself above the law)
will be revealed" (2 Thess 2:8a).
    • "The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." (2 Thess 2:9–12).
    • "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." (2 Tim 4:3–4).
    • "The king will do as he pleases (to say what he wants without caring if it's politically correct, who he might offend, or if it's true). He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods." (Dan 11:36a).
    • "The whole world (most people) was filled with wonder and followed the beast." (Rev 13:3b).
    • "He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will
      cause astounding devastation and
will succeed in whatever he does.
      He will destroy
(by deception and persecution) those who are mighty,
      the holy people.
      " (Dan 8:24).
    • "People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked: 'Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?'" (Rev 13:4).

These verses show the true character of the end time Antichrist. He will:
    • come in his own name,
    • have the mouth of a lion,
    • be arrogant,
    • elevate himself above others,
    • be boastful,
    • being a pathological liar (throwing truths to the ground),
    • deny God the Father and the Son (Jesus),
    • be a vile and evil person,
    • love gold and money,
    • be called the little horn,
    • confirm a covenant between Israel and many other nations,
    • disguise himself as a force for good,
    • revealed through the apostasy (falling away),
    • having the ego to call himself God (being the Savior of mankind),
    • succeed in whatever he does (until Jesus returns),
    • be a descendant of the Assyrian people and Ancient Rome.
"Antichrist" not only means one who opposes everything Christ stands for, but it also means one who seeks to replace Christ in the hearts and minds of believers.

The following are unbiblical misunderstandings of the characteristics of Antichrist: Young, attractive, universally loved, intelligent, brilliant, likely Middle Eastern,
not attracted to women, easy to identify as he would clearly stand for all the things that Christianity opposes. But those qualities of him aren't found in the Bible. See

Trump Video Shorts (from 1:47) and Brother James Key Describes the Antichrist.

There are also similarities between Antichrist and Satan himself, see
The Book of Ezekiel. Satan can give the power of the world to whom he will
(Luk 4:6b). Presumably he will do it to someone who behaves like him.

Who is the False Prophet and the Antichrist

A candidate to be the False Prophet is the last pope
before Jesus returns, the religious leader of the Catholic church, see The Roman Catholic Church. The current one is Pope Francis who may be the last pope but will likely pave the way for him, see: PASTOR BILLY CRONE POPE ONE WORLD RELIGION INTERVIEW
It's reasonable to believe that Pope Francis will be succeeded by a Pope with a focus on nationalismwho may then be the False Prophet if he has a close relationship with Antichrist, see the video The 3 Prime Suspects for the False Prophet
There are also other candidates alive today to be
    the False Prophet.

We have seen many leaders act in the spirit of Antichrist, although they haven't been the end time Antichrist, but they have prepared the way for him. A possible date for the arrival of Antichrist at the beginning of the Tribulation period is given in
End of Time in When Did Jesus Die and when Was He Born? If this date is close to being correct, Antichrist should be alive and active even today. A suggestion of who he is is given in the article
What is Babylon in the Book of Revelation?
