The Parable about the Wise and Foolish Builders

Jesus told a parable about two men. One builds a house on a rock and the other on sand. Only the foundations were different. The house on the rock didn't fall, but the house on the sand did. (Mat 7:24–27, Luke 6:46–49).

The foundation is Jesus Christ (1 Cor 3:10–11). It means believing everything the Bible says about him; who he is, what he came to do, to exalt Jesus in worship, and obey him. It's about being Christ-centered. If the foundation is bad, the building is bad. The parable is a symbol of those who hear or read God's word and either obey it or disobey it. Those who apply God's word in their lives are a picture of building their house on a solid foundation (Mat 7:24–25, Luke 6:47–48).

The Christians who don't apply the word of God in their  lives will find their Christian lives shaken when trials, tribulations, and difficulties occur (Mat 7:26–27,
Luke 6:49). The message is that we shouldn't only hear or read the word of God, but also apply it in our lives (James 1:22–24). There are always areas in our lives where we still haven't applied God's word, see
Sanctification. See also time 43:42–47:28 in Luke 6 (Part 2) :12-49 • The Sermon on the Plain.

We must let God's word illuminate all areas of our lives according to their context (Mark 4:21-25, Luke 8:16-18). We must not stop listening to the truth truth of God's word (2 Tim 4:3-4), and then apply this truth to our lives.

The rock is a picture of the Lord Jesus and the stability that God brings into our lives when we not only hear God's word but put it into practice in our lives. Jesus is that rock, see 2. Provision of Water in Moses; Part 9: Provision from God.

"For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster." (Proverbs 1:3233).

Apostle Paul also speaks of three different kinds of work (1 Cor 3:10–17),
